Houseplant Finder
Find houseplants that fit your light, pet-safety needs, and growing style. Filter 282 plant care records and open complete care guides.
Start with the conditions you already have. A plant that fits your room is easier to care for than one that needs a different room.

How to use the houseplant finder
Choose the light at the intended position, not the brightest window elsewhere in the home. Lower-light tolerance describes survival with less light; it does not mean a plant can grow in a windowless room. Bright indirect light means a bright position without long periods of harsh direct sun on the leaves. Use the light and placement guide if you are unsure.
The filters read the same care records as the encyclopedia. Pet results include only plants whose database record explicitly has the selected toxicity value; missing data is not treated as proof of safety. Confirm the scientific name with the toxicity checker and a trusted veterinary reference before putting a plant within reach of an animal.
Build a shortlist you can keep alive
Open two or three full care guides, then use plant comparison to compare water checks, temperature and humidity. Avoid collecting plants with incompatible care needs just because they share a common name. Keep the nursery label until the identification is settled.
If nothing matches, relax one filter or improve the growing conditions. An empty result is useful: it can save you from buying a plant for a position that cannot support it. See the plant selection guide for a room-first shopping checklist.
Frequently asked questions
Does low light mean no daylight?
No. Lower-light plants still need enough usable light to grow. A windowless position needs an appropriate artificial light.
Are the results personalized recommendations?
They are transparent filters of our care database, not a prediction of how a plant will perform in your home.
